Al Capone
Following the leader of his gang's death, Capone quickly moved to control the sale of all alcohol in Chicago. He created an elaborate distribution system where alcohol was brought from Canada. Also, Capone was able to set up hundreds of small breweries in and around Chicago. He had delivery trucks and owned speakeasies where the alcohol was readily available. It is estimated that he was able to make $60,000,000 per year from alcohol alone.
Although Capone was in Florida at the time, he is very well known for orchestrating the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre that took place on February 14, 1929. Members of Capone’s mob posed as police officers and machine-gunned to death seven associates of the “Bugs” Moran against a garage wall. |
